The Tea Tree

Camellia Sinensis

Camellia Sinensis is a species of fast growing, evergreen forest shrub that thrives in tropical and sub-tropical regions. These 3 – 4 feet green warriors of earth do well in partial sunlight and can live for over a century. This survivor needs well-drained, sandy, loamy rich soil. The more acidity content in the earth, the better it grows.

Camellia Sinensis is a very hygroscopic plant. Humidity, rainfall, intensity of sunlight, temperature, wind conditions, elevation are all vital environmental factors affecting this hard plant. Within a single tea plantation, a single tea bush can have varying levels of chemicals, flavors, textures, intensities and aromas.

Why is Pure Ceylon Tea so unique and special?

Tea is essentially a hot drink made by infusing the dried crushed leaves of a tea plant in boiling water. It is as simple as it sounds. However the making of the flavors of Ceylon tea is based on various factors. Sri Lanka has it all, a small region with a myriad of micro climates. Allowing an extremely wide variety of tea to be produced during various seasons.

Ceylon Tea is grown and produced according to uncompromising, traditional methods and standards since 1880. The alchemy of land, sun and rain in the Paradise Island of Ceylon, as it was known then, presented the ideal climatic conditions for cultivation of tea.
